DECADES OF REAL WORLD TESTING WITH GUYS LIKE YOU.

These are the results of tests we ran with a small group of customers who had already been weightlifting for years. We wanted to compare the benefits of lifting as much as possible in 30, 60, and 90 second timed sets.

We grouped people randomly (based on the first letter of their first name) into three groups that performed timed sets with the same exercises. All of them were comfortably beyond the age of 40. This was an informal study done with only 24 people and each conducted their workouts on their own and unsupervised.

During the test they performed an average of just under 9 workouts and it took each group between 67 and 78 days to complete them since their full recovery each time was paramount and closely measured using their Power Factor numbers.

We measured their strength gains (measured in lbs/min lifted) across six muscle groups; Triceps, Chest, Traps, Low Back, Lats, and Quadriceps. Gains here are shown from the 3rd workout to the last workout, as the earliest gains often come from improvement in technique rather than actual muscle gain and we wanted a fair comparison.

At the end we measured the change in body weight and fat to calculate the actual muscle gained. You can see the 30-second group outperformed. Of course, the weights used to failure at 30-seconds are significantly heavier than what can be sustained for 60 or 90 seconds, but all groups exerted themselves at the peak limits of their power each workout. As you can see, the 30-second group gained about 9% strength per workout and 0.8 lbs of muscle per workout.

This is just one of dozens of things we’ve tested. We measure the effectiveness of different variation like strips sets vs pyramid sets vs 1 set vs 2 sets vs 3 sets vs 100-rep sets, etc. We also measured what exercises deliver the highest intensity to a given targeted muscle; e.g hammer curls vs preacher curls vs barbell curls, etc.

When you have an objective measurement like the Power Factor (and Power Index) you can make rational,  informed decisions about what is working best for YOU, not for the average guy, or a younger guy, or a more gifted athlete.
